Roland Super Sound Set board for the JV series has a couple very good patches-
honky tonk, and one called something like "Dusty Upright"- it has that dull,
out of tune, church fellowship hall sound to it, I've used it on some stuff
with good success. Two other ideas that also work- take a patch like this, and
double it with a good piano patch and adjust the volumes between the two to get
the desired "age". I've also taken a good piano sample in an Akai sampler,
used the scale tuning page to detune some of the notes, dulled the eq at the
mixer, and blended this with an in-tune piano. Each of these does a good job
of getting away from that bright, fake honky-tonk sound.
