Count me in. I've got a broadband link, so I don't mind doing some
downloading and burning a CD

Anyone any ideas on how we could best split up the work ?

I'd gladly cooperate, but can't download the samples myself, being on
a 56k connection.  Building instruments from them would be fun to do
though, and probably not that difficult.  If you're really willing to
download the samples and send a CD, I'd be happy to tackle some of
the instruments.

Impressive collection of free samples btw...  Every single note of a
Steinway...  For those who missed the original post:

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
