Any percussive instrument that decays is by nature polyphonic. What is unnatural is a sampler sound that completely cuts off it's ambience and decay. Try playing a real open hi-hat in a rock setting and then try the same thing monophonically on your EXS, then try it polyphonically. Polyphony is important for sounds that decay. -EP
