This sounds like a fair work around, but surely this indicates a fundamental problem with the software? Lets be realistic. You only will be using a fraction of that 120Gb of samples in a track, so just create a second directory under the Logic one called "Sampler Instruments (Unused)" and move the unused ones in there. That way Logic loads way quicker and no problems.
