Oh yeah, that old trick...er...just exactly how does that one work again?
Are you compressing the bass, with the kick as the sidechain input? Maybe
you'd be willing to offer us a little bit of a "for dummies" description of

Don't forget to use the old "sidechain compression with the kik and bass
trick" to really tighten and fatten up your kik sound in the mix. I think
this will help you achieve what you are looking for as much as the quality
of the actual kik sample itself.
