RE: [exs] good dance-drums samples (EXS24 or rex2)

Hmmm, I thought I had heard of this trick almost in reverse, so you
insert a gate on the bass track, triggered by the kick, so the bass
is only allowed in when the kick hits. Is this another standard method,
with a different sound, or would the gate method muddy things up?

Yes, the basic principle is that you insert a compressor on your bass track.
And then use the kik signal as the sidechain input to that compressor. So
the kik ends up triggering compression on the bass every time it hits. It
creats a little bit of an "sonic pocket" for the kik to sit in. It really
tightens up the whole bass/kik aspect of the mix.

Here is a quote from the prolific f-erenc szabo from a LUG post a while back
describing this:

If any of you are interested, I used this technique on one of the mixes on
my band's demo. You can hear it at the site in my signature below. navigate
to the mp3 download page and check out "I Will Love Again".
