Mainly it's a source of inspiration to me For example, a good thing to learn from and get inspired is to "steal", say, an 8 bar part of an existing complete song and try to reprogram it entirely. As said, you learn a lot, your hearing skills improve as well, and, in my case, I will often come up with own ideas during the process, being totally different from the original.
