I'm going to try the MIDI file on my favorite sampled piano, the Kurzweil K250, next to the others to see how it does. Even though the real piano recording is a little murky (probably because of the room, but also by comparison since samples lack the sympathetic vibrations), the others all get into the "bite" tone range way too quickly, have phasing problems, or have plastic notes. And the phasing and plastic problems are usually at softer velocities. Solo classical piano is quite clearly not the right application for samples. Very interesting.
