They all sound like utter shite next to the real piano, don't they!

I'm going to try the MIDI file on my favorite sampled piano, the
Kurzweil K250, next to the others to see how it does.

Even though the real piano recording is a little murky (probably
because of the room, but also by comparison since samples lack the
sympathetic vibrations), the others all get into the "bite" tone
range way too quickly, have phasing problems, or have plastic notes.
And the phasing and plastic problems are usually at softer velocities.

Solo classical piano is quite clearly not the right application for samples.

Very interesting. Thanks for posting that!

What´s "My piano", if it´s a real piano how did you make it a midifile.

My piano is a sampled piano.

This page demonstrate that we are still far away even from a bad recorded
real piano. There is still a lot of work to do before having a sampled
instrument that triggers exactly like a real piano. Most piano are too
brights in the pp, p and mf levels. It is ok when you an Elton John song,
but if you play a sad song or just something with more feeling, it sucks.

Even if MyPiano is not the perfect piano it is in my opinion closer to the
real thing. But maybe I'm wrong?

It certainly sounds like it, the Pristline Steinway C does sound quite a bit darker though. I do however think that it sounds kinda unnaturel at the higher velocities, actually yours are probably the best of them; you should shop it around and see if somebody wants to distibute it.

I think it's possible to find a better piano library. The stock piano patch
on my Alesis QS7.1 keyboard (which is sampled from a Bosendorfer) has a far
better sound throughout the entire range than any of these examples.

Could you use the Midi file and render a mp3 so I'll add it to the page?

Nikko,
I'll try and get to it soon. That'll be a good way to see if my impressions
hold true.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
