And to add one last rehash to the various responses on this thread.. ;-)

Multitimbral (multi-channel, multi-MIDI-channel) is when you can have
something like the following setup:

- ONE instance of EXS, for example, a drum program with..

- A kick that responds to notes on MIDI channel 1, with it's own set of
parameters (like, say, vel>samplestart = 10)

- A snare that responds to notes on MIDI channel 2, with a different set of
parameters (like, say, vel>samplestart = 25)

The above is currently not possible in Logic 5.5 (or, apparently, in 6.0
either).. :-( To have different notes with different parameter settings,
that respond to different MIDI channels, you would need 2 (or more)
instances of EXS. Unfortunately, another limitation in the current version
of Logic is that, in that case, you couldn't play or record kick and snare
at the same time; you'd have to play, say, the kick first, then *overdub*
the snare.. only after the parts are recorded could you play them back
together..

However, what you *can* do currently in Logic is have multiple *Audio
Outputs* for the different samples in a single instance of EXS. For example:

- You could have ONE instance of EXS, say, a drum program with a kick and
snare that BOTH respond to notes on MIDI channel 1, and BOTH share the same
parameter settings (ie kick and snare *can't* have different settings for
vel>samplestart, as above)..

- You could, in the EXS Instrument Editor window, assign the sample that
plays back on the kick note to play through, say, Audio Object Aux 1, and
the sample that plays back on the snare note to play through Audio Object
Aux 2. You could then have different plugins on kick and snare.. For
example:

- A Fat EQ and C-1 Compressor on kick (in Audio Object Aux 1)
- A Ren EQ and Ren Compressor on snare (in Audio Object Aux 2)

This would be possible if you instantiated one "Multi" version of the EXS
plug (remember, in this case, "Multi" refers to multiple *audio outputs*
from one EXS instance, NOT multiple MIDI channels & parameter settings in
one instance)!

So, in the question above, it *is* possible to put different *audio
effects* (plugins) on different drum samples in one EXS instance, but *not*
to have different *parameter settings* (ie different EXS Filter types) for
different drum samples in one EXS instance..
