RE: MORE best audio card

2001-03-16 by James Nitti

Has anybody tried the Frontier cards on a Mac yet? I'm in the same boat, but looking at a new card for a G4. I was just about to go with the MOTU 2408 when I read all the negative posts here. I need ADAT I/O but also the ability to monitor via analog. I'll probably just end up with another digi001. I was hoping to be able to use something with ASIO support though. People are pretty happy with the Hammerfall, huh? I suppose I could buy some sort of AD/DA converter so I could still use my mackie mixer and microphones for analog inputs (which I don't use that often) and to hook up a pair of speakers. That starts to really add to the cost though.

Is the MOTU really so bad on a Mac? I did have a bad experience using Logic with a Midi Express-XT USB. I finally just gave it away and bought a Unitor. I just hated having to run FreeMIDI and OMS between LAMP and the MidiExpress. The native support in Logic for the Unitor is wonderful, and it's been several months before I could even consider a MOTU product again.

Jim
