here's what I do:

copy all the folders inside logic related to samples (sampler insts, giga,
Akai, Recycle, etc...) to your sample drive. delete the originals from
inside the logic folder. make aliases of those copied folders on your sample
drive and put them inside the logic folder. then logic sees everything where
it originally was and doesn't have to search, but all the data goes to the
sample drive.
