Since EXS is a native based system your old TDM rig won't be helping it at
all. In general the best native audio system is the fastest DUAL CPU machine
you can get your hands on with lots of ram and at least one (this may be
enough) fast dedicated audio HD - preferably not on the PCI bus - meaning
not SCSI. IDE (internal) or external firewire is fine. The best audio
hardware (no flames please) to support this MAY be the RME HDSP system since
it's been constantly reported as having less CPU drain than any other NATIVE
based hardware and exhibits industry standard (lack) of latency.

If you optimise your Dual 450 and run good audio hardware and plenty of ram
you'll get decent performance. Drive speed is not too much an issue since a
cheap 7200 rpm IDE drive will give 48+ tracks no problems.
