well... i don't know... what i do is this - let's say i create a new
instrument, "steel guitar" for instance. i make this instrument exactly the
way i want it with all the settings in the exs. i save the instrument in the
sampler instruments folder (in the logic folder).

then, let's say i start new a song, where i want the "steel guitar"
instrument to be transposed. instead of making a new instrument (calling it
eg steel guitar-transposed-new song) i just tweak it as i please in the exs.
only in the graphic "sampler display" look thing tho, not in EDIT mode.
maybe this is what u mean. i'm only changing stuff like transpose,
pitchwheel, ADSR etc... not keyboardlayouts and stuff in the EDIT mode
window. after that i save my new song and my exs edits are saved with it -
and ONLY with that song-in the song file.

i'm not sure where u are trying to edit but in the graphic "sampler display"
i can edit "without" saving (other than saving the song of course).
