Here's the answer, clear as day, right from the manual. How I missed this
earlier I don't know. Anyway...
"When saving any newly created or modified Sampler Instruments, ensure that
you use the "Save as" function and browse to the "Sampler Instruments"
folder inside the new song folder."
That's it.
