When you first open a sampler instrument file (something.exs) Logic looks for the audio files that are specified in the exs instument definition -- which you might have downloaded from a web site or installed from a CD or moved from another machine. Before 4.7, this search started automatically. On my PC it searched my system drive first (waste of time) and then my audio drive where it eventually found the files. The path to these files is then saved automatically with the instrument file and next time you open it they are loaded automatically. Now, with 4.7, you can choose to specify which drive Logic will search (eg your Audio Drive) or to extend the search to network drives if that suits your setup. The search only occurs when Logic doesn't already know where to find the files and is "automated" in the sense that it doesn't start by giving you a dialog box with a [browse] button so that you can direct the program "manually" to the folder where the files can be found.
