And while I may agree with Hendrik Jan about looping Mellotron samples (the original had no loop option either), I also agree that setting up looppoints is some sort of a pain with Logics Sample Editor. Personally I am using WaveLab (PC only) for such tasks and I can only say it's simply brilliant, you will usually find proper looppoints, even in the most complexed wave files, plus there's a some bunch of other tools allowing for destructive sample mangling which is often leading to better results. Anyways, to switch between the right and left loop point I set up two keycommands for the Sample Edit window: "Goto Selection Start" and "Goto Selection End" (I'm using Y and X for those, they are right beside each other on german keyboard layouts). That way I can quickly jump back and forth between the two, which is giving me some sort of fast visual control. In addition, for samples not looping properly I'd experiment with a rather large crossfade value. Also, talking about Mellotron samples, there's J.P.Hovercrafts rather famous ones here: http://tinpan.fortunecity.com/aphex/113/ You can find values for right and left looppoints there (not sure, maybe they are even included in the wavefile), also, I found the samples to be pretty useful for some things.
