For scrolling through instruments there _is_ a dedicated key command (next/prev EXS instrument). I suppose you're aware of that. However, those KCs require you to have the EXS open, which your trick avoids -- and that's neat indeed. But... I just tried, and the trick you describe is working in a strange way... When having the 'Instrument' parameter active, dragging the vertical bar next to the track name will scroll through _all_ your EXS programs (or: drag the bar, and then use numeric +/- for fine-scrolling). That's amazing, as I've got over 5000 EXS instruments, and you can access them all individually this way. However, for automation this is useless, as automation is limited to 128 values. When you try it, it seems automation takes big steps through the available instruments -- like increasing automation from value=1 to value=2 will change the EXS from instruments 120 to 260 or something. Despite the fact that the trick is somewhat surprising, I wonder how useful it really is in practice -- except that it gives you a way to scroll through the EXS instruments without having to have an EXS instance open to receive the dedicated key commands. -- Hendrik Jan Veenstra h @ k n o w a r e . n l Omega Art: http://www.omega-art.com/
