Soundfont conversion -- pretty shaky

Soundfont conversion -- pretty shaky

2001-04-14 by Murray McDowall

Hi,

I am a little disappointed with the soundfont conversion system for the EXS
24 which has arrived in version 4.7.

Many soundfonts have multiple presets -- different levels of FX etc. Unlike
the freeware SF2-EXS converter which I have used in the past, Logic's
converter doesn't display the structure of the Soundfont or give any
options as to which of the presets (most of which are useless in Logic as
they are variations on SBlive parameters) -- you wish to convert.

On PC, I have had several experiences as follows: Logic's SF2 converter
works away for about a minute converting all of the presets supplied with
the soundfont one after the other (eg 5 versions of a Rhodes with 12Mb of
samples) and then Logic will crash -- despite 384Mb memory.

Regards,
Murray

I found logic is doing a very bad job with the loops in the
soundfonts. Now I'm using CD-extract to do the conversion,
works pretty good.
