EXSP Tuning Problems

EXSP Tuning Problems

2003-11-06 by Gregory Anderson

Does anyone know why my EXSP would suddenly start playing out of tune? All
was good until 2 days ago, now my piano parts all warble and change pitch
all throughout my songs.

This does not happen with old songs, which has got me stumped. I compared
my current EXSP settings with those on an old song and they are identical.
I have also tried trashing prefs, rebuilding HD, zapping PRAM and trashing
Autoload. All new stuff has this tuning problem.

It may be a coincidence, but the timing is about the same as when I
installed a demo of Steinberg's FreeFilter. I trashed that, since I
couldn't figure out how to use it, but I am wondering if its installation
somehow changed something.

It happens whether I use Mac AV or my Hammerfall ASIO. It's most noticeable
on Emagic's Stereo Grand and the Splendid Grand, less so on strings and
bass. I doesn't happen using ST Free Piano or other VSTis. The VSTi out is
set to my main outs and there are no effects on either the Audio Instrument
or Main Out objects.

This is not a crack. In fact, this isn't even the EXS24, but the EXSP24.
I've been using it since I got it 2 years ago without problem.

Any advice, whether it works or not, would be greatly appreciated. I tried
calling tech support all day yesterday but got a busy signal so didn't even
get put on hold.

Thanks,

Gregory

Anybody?
Sounds a little fishy to me... [K]?

It's your MODULATION wheel on your synth/controller. Make sure it's all the
way down (or in the middle, if it's the pitch).

I have an Alesis synth with a pitch wheel that won't center exactly, which
sends pitch change data CONSTANTLY! I had to use Logic's transformer to filter
out pitch change data (disabling it).

Good luck!

Thank you SO MUCH! I thought I had checked that by unplugging
my synth (an old KS32 with a bad battery) during playback,
stupidly forgetting that the problem would have happened during
the initial RECORDING of the track. Deleting 2 tiny little MIDI
events in the event editor and the problem is solved.

Hmm, I guess this means that SampleTank Free Piano doesn't
respond to MODULATION commands.

Maybe this is the justification I have been looking for to spend an
ungodly sum on a new master keyboard!

Thanks again Jeff!
