Re: [exs] samples click on playback

Re: [exs] samples click on playback

2001-04-15 by Julie Larson

thanks Mardy,
I converted the whole CD this mornng and still have clicks. Don't get it
except that I've seen people have trouble with discs that I never had
trouble with. The clicks sound like the clicks you get when an audio edit
isn't quite right. Not all the samples in an instrument have it. About
half. I went into the waveform and can't seem to improve it by changing the
start point to the next zero crossing. I guess I'm heading for a third
party converter. Thanks again for the suggestion.

Julie

hi Julie,
I've converted the ultimate piano collection. It works perfectly.
The best thing is to convert the entire CD at once. Or at least every
partition.
BTW thanks for the tip on copy-paste when merging instruments!
To obvious I guess:-)

"I converted the whole CD this mornng and still have clicks"
-----------------

i had loads of clicks on several discs worth of conversions pre
4.7. its way better since i re-converted post 4.7.(still some there
though...) the clicks im getting are all at the ends of samples, the
end points hadnt translated properly it seems. i was told by
chickensys that this was an error in the original files which only
became apparent once the files were ported to the exs format. i
cant vouch for the truth of that but i have no reason to doubt it.
as far as im aware chickensys are working on a mac
programme to deal with these kinds of issues. i recommend
getting in touch with them about your experiences and also
contacting the makers of the disc you're having problems with
and explaining whats going on, that you've heard its an original
file issue, and do they have any recommendations for you.
the problems you're having may not be related to those ive been
experiencing, but thats my penny's worth anyway :)

Re: [exs] suggestion rev. loop

On the Roland sampler series there was a unique loop feature called reverse
looping. It was possible to make the sample play forward and backwards
between the loop points set. Wouldn't it be cool to have that in the EXS?

At least two hardware samples do this. I think Julie means it would be cool
if the EXS did also. I agree.

Translator supports this translation into EXS-24 by altering the wavedata
to accurately simulate this effect. Three samplers do bidirectional looping
- Roland, Ensoniq, and Kurzweil.
