Subject: [EXS] Monitoring Audio "thru" Logic


Sorry for posting here, but have you seen the "logic-users" list?
It's a bit crowded and I like this list because everyone is so easy
going and I always get several replies.

You might also try the Logic Mac group.  Equally less crowded, no censoring
of emails, and this post would be on topic there. :)

My question is in regards to monitoring audio AFTER Logic processes
it.  I suppose this isn't specific to the Tascam and could be
relevent to any soundcard, but is it possible to hook up a Mic to
Input 1 of an audio card and (real-time) monitor a vocal based on the
audio coming back out of Logic?  Or would that put too much Latency
on what I'm hearing versus when the singer is singing?  I'm asking
because I wanted to hear the vocal Wet while they are singing but
unless I use Logic Platinum Verb I won't have that option.

It is possible if you put the verb on a live input and use soft monitoring.
Actually, I think that's if you want to print the verb onto the recording.
I'm pretty sure you will hear the verb inserted on the recording track but
have never tried it.

My experience when using soft monitoring even without fx is that the latency
is unacceptable.  What I did is keep my outboard Q-verb and patch that in to
my mixer purely as a monitor verb.

In a typical studio environment do you monitor all vocals completely
dry and then add all effects later?

I don't know what is typical, but I monitor everything with WAY more reverb
than I will ever be applying to the final mix.

I know this topic is veering off from EXS24 but I do appreciate
everyones help.

Try the LA-Mac group.  Not a very high volume, but helpful just the same.
