Monitoring Audio "thru" Logic

Sorry for posting here, but have you seen the "logic-users" list? It's a bit crowded and I like this list because everyone is so easy going and I always get several replies. I'm looking at the Tascam FW-1884 which is their Firewire control surface with 8 analog ins/outs, 8-channel ADAT, and more. One nice thing about this unit is that it has inserts for each analog channel. When reading the literature it explains that you can monitor directly on the board for "zero latency monitoring". I'm not all that technical, but I'll assume this means you monitor everything coming into the Tascam before Logic ever processes anything. I believe Pro Tools LE (Digi 002/002R) has this feature too. My question is in regards to monitoring audio AFTER Logic processes it. I suppose this isn't specific to the Tascam and could be relevent to any soundcard, but is it possible to hook up a Mic to Input 1 of an audio card and (real-time) monitor a vocal based on the audio coming back out of Logic? Or would that put too much Latency on what I'm hearing versus when the singer is singing? I'm asking because I wanted to hear the vocal Wet while they are singing but unless I use Logic Platinum Verb I won't have that option. In a typical studio environment do you monitor all vocals completely dry and then add all effects later? I know this topic is veering off from EXS24 but I do appreciate everyones help. Regards, Mark
