EXspired! HELP!

EXspired! HELP!

2003-12-04 by alex0420198

Hi, I bought the "Big Box" and my EXS24 finally expired and I have the EXSP
now. I had numerous Giga converted instruments that loaded in about 5-10
sec. with EXS24 and now with EXSP it takes 3-4 min! I cannot allocate sample
memory with OSX and when I try to play the GIGA samples, after they finally
load, they pop horribly. Can the EXSP not handle large samples like the
EXS24 could? I'm frustrated and confused and I feel like i got screwed! what
am i doing wrong?

Have you upgraded to the very lastest Logic version (6.3.2) and
switched on virtual memory in the EXS?

Hendrik, I have logic audio, only platinum comes in 6.3.2 i have to stick with
6.3.1. With the EXSP24 in the option menu there is no virtual memory setting
as in the EXS24mkII. Emagic shipped me the AudioUnit version of EXSP24
and for some strange reason it will only look for the samples in one
place....USERS/SHARED/exsp24samples.
Is that wierd or what?
I read that the EXSP is only capable of loading EXS samples, The samples I
load were converted from GIGA samples, so they are very large, but the
EXS24mkII handled them fine, no latency or pops. MAN THIS SUCKS!

Well... I don't know if that's weird... But how about putting an
alias to your instruments folder inside the users/shared/exsp folder?
Won't that work?

>I read that the EXSP is only capable of loading EXS samples,

You mean "EXS instruments" not "samples". Samples are just audio
files and not bound to any particular sampler.

Well, if the EXSP doesn't have virtual memory, then you're out of
luck with large instruments indeed. Or if it does in principle, then
it's just a matter of waiting until Logic Audio also has the OSX /
virtual memory bug fixed -- i.e. until Audio 6.3.2 is out.

You have to run Project Manger's file-resolving routine (I forget the
exact name). It will take many hours if you have a lot of samples,
but it will solve the slow loading problem.

A far better alternative is Redmatica's EXSManager, which does this
less than a minute. www.redmatica.com

Alex,

I think the problem is lack of disk streaming on the EXSP. This EXS loaded
so fast because it wasn't trying to load all the samples into RAM. The
EXSP, without virtual memory, is trying to load the whole thing, and the
pops are you overloading your system. I've never seen an update to the EXSP
either, so whether the lack of vm on the EXSP was a designed limitation or a
bug (I think the former), I don't see your situation getting better unless
you upgrade to the EXS24.

If I'm wrong and you find another solution, let me know, because I have been
avoiding Giga instruments for that reason.

Just put an Alias to your sample folder inside !
Or rename the alias of the folder of your samples to exsp24samples
