New to the list and an EXSP24 problem

2003-12-03 by protools@pandora.be

Hi all,

I'm JanG, new to the list and would like to say hello to everyone!

Then there is the problem thingy.

I got a serious problem and i still haven't found a way to solve it.
I guess the solution would be simply but it seems like i just can't
come to it.

When i start Logic and insert an EXSP on a audiotrack, then try to load
a sampler instrument
but weird as it is, the presets are not in de list anymore!
I got the extreme analog cd, doesn't show up neither.
The sampler instruments are all in the logic folder so this kinda beats
me!

I trashed the files and prefs several times, also reinstalled the whole
thing, unfortunally to no avail!

Iff somebody can give me advice on this? Please, it's very frustrating!

I'm using Logic Audio 6.3.1 on a G4 1.25GHz 768RAM running OSX Panther

Kind regards,
JanG

ps: sorry for my bad english.

The sampler instrument files are in the Sampler Instrument folder
which resides in the Logic applicaiton folder, I hope... (and not in
the Logic folder directly, as you say).

If that is okay, and it still doesn't work, try running the Project
Manager. Have it scan all your disks, and hopefully you'll see your
.exs files appear. Some of them will be red, meaning the samples
belonging to those instruments aren't properly linked to the
instrument files: do a "resolve unreferenced files" (or something
like that -- forgot the exact name, but it's in the project manager's
menu).

Yep, they are in that folder!

I can't find nothing about the Project Manager.
I think this function is limited to Platinum only.
I just have Logic Audio 6 (Big Box), not Platinum.

So what else can i do?

If Audio has no PM, then the EXSP should simply find all files in the
Sampler Instruments folder and resolve file references the 1st time
you load an instrument. Beats me why it doesn't do that... No
instruments *at all* show up?

Nope, not even one!
Only the ones that i have saved with the plugin itself, those are in
the default plugin settings flolder.
I also copied the .exs files to that folder, doens't work.

Strangsly this is happend after two weeks or so since i updated to 6.3.1
Think i'm going to trash the whole Logic folder and prefs, etc. and
install my original 6.3.0
In that version it atleast worked fine.

Anyway, thanks for the help and your time!

This is weird indeed. You might try to change the file Type and
Creator of the instrument files (.exs) with a utility such as
FileBuddy. Set the Type to ".exs" and the Creator to "EMAG" --
without quotes and with the proper capitalization. If that doesn't
work, a re-install might indeed be a last recourse..

I once did a Big Box install for someone (with the EXSP) and I seem to
recall that the EXSP needed to see the sampler instruments folder in a
different place than we are accustomed to for the EXS 24.

I seem to recall (it was a while ago) that an Emagic - EXSP folder is
created, I think in the VST plugins folder, and that the sampler instruments
folder needs to reside in there. And all of this was in OS 9.

I got EXSP24 for MacOS X recently and I remember a similar problem.
It's a little foggy for me. It seems like EXSP24 only saw instruments
in the folder it installed them into
(/Users/Shared/EXSPFactorySoundset). Is that what you mean by "with the
plugin itself"?

Now that's the really weird thing!!
I have them also in that path.
Still nothing show's up!!

I think trashing and reinstalling the whole thing is the only option i
have left. :-(

Hi,

Have you checked in:

	/Library/Application Support/Emagic

There are two folders:
	/Sampler Instruments
	/EXSamples

You might also (but I have not checked) be able to place your samples in:
	~/Library/Application Support/Emagic/ etc

(you might need to create the above folders if they do not already exist).

Neil
