If you run the installer from the CD, everything should be installed
in the proper location automatically...

The instrument files (small ones, ending in .exs in this case) should
go in the Sampelr Instruments folder in the Logic application folder.
The samples themselves can reside anywhere on your system. After
installation, run the Project Manager, select the exs files, and pick
the command "fix unresolved references" (or whatever it's exact name
is) to 'fix' the .exs files so they point at the proper samples.

[EXS] Info needed asap re: difference between EXS and Giga

2003-11-05 by Hendrik Jan Veenstra

Hi gang,

Could anyone tell me (in just a few words) what kind of stuff the
Giga-format does/supports that doesn't get properly (or: at all)
translated to EXS-instruments by the native EXS-translator? I need
this for an article, and need it asap. Thanks a zillion for any
replies in advance -- either here or in private mail.

cheers,
HJ

Hi Hendrik,
Im sure you've heard this...but just in case. Even though the EXS has
the capabilities...It will not translate release triggers and mod wheel
triggers correctly. I've been translating Kirk Hunter's Solo Strings
and Sam Horns Trumpets this week and had to use CDXtract and Translator
both....they have different strengths... to get the best result

Okay, great, thanks for the info. If I may use your time & expertise
a bit longer: in what sense are those not translated correctly? I
mean: a release trigger is simply a sample that gets triggered when
you release the key -- what can possibly go wrong with that? It can't
get triggered too early or late... Or do you mean they don't get
translated at all in some cases, so you lose release triggers?

And to expand on this: are there any parameters/capabilities that are
_not_ translated (at all), instead of wrongly translated?

Thanks in advance for any further insights you (or anyone else) could provide.

I'm sorry Hendrik...I'm going to have to check this...I've done so much
testing this week I'm doubting my memory as to what exactly happens
when what screws up. Let me run a couple of tests and get back to you
in a couple of hours.

Re: [EXS] Info needed asap re: difference between EXS and Giga

Hi Hendrik,
First you need to know that I don't have Gigasampler...so I'm making an
educated guess as to how these programs are supposed to function.

Ok...as far as the release triggers go.

I'm comparing a CDXtract conversion with the internal one. The
internal exs converter dropped the release samples and their group
completely. Simply didn't convert at all.

On the MW front it appears that sometimes it works sometimes it
doesn't. I just did a simple conversion Sam Trumpets Effects- MW
switch between 2 different "takes" of a cluster. It converted
correctly. But in more complicated setup...take for example one of the
Kirk Hunter Solo String programs, the converter has trouble. Kirk
likes to program articulation switching with the MW. I prefer Key
switching myself...but that's what makes the world go round.
Anyway...he might have 4 different articulations, each with 8 velocity
layers that he wants to switch between via the MW. The EXS puts the 4
different articulations in their own group but has them triggered with
Key down. So...they all sound at once. not hard to fix though.

Hope this helps.

Yes, it does! This is precisely the kind of stuff I was looking for!
Thanks so much for your time & effort -- I owe you one. If you ever
get lost in Holland, I'll buy you a beverage of choice :). You're
the best...

Julie, don't ever let this man talk you into drinking Chocomel. Some
addictions are too strong for the likes of man.

Henrik,

As much time and effort as you put into your answers to this group...I
think we all owe you at least one. So...if you're ever lost in Texas...

glad I could help,

julie

It is the ultimate chocolate milk. Think Dutch Chocolate and Dutch
milk, the latter of which tastes rather different from what we have
over here and is part of Chocomel's taste.

There is a Dutch goods shop in Portland and I get it there when I am
in town (75 miles away).

The most lost I have ever been in Holland was when I took the train
from Amsterdam to Hilversum in a vain attempt to find Radio
Netherlands.

Julie, Bob is right. This guy is dangerous. I know him. He starts with the
chocomel-stuff and before you know you're in his power. That's exactly how
he scored his present-day wife (and all the ones before....).

I am new to this forum and also new to Logic, having installed the OSX version of the
Logic Audio Big Box (Oops, I almost typed Bug Box. Sorry!!) a little over a week ago.
After installing Xtreme Analog I am having the same problem. However I do not
understand what the "Project Manager" is and how do I get at it. I can find only one
reference to it in the Getting Started manual that points me to the reference manual. I
can find no reference to a Project Manager in the reference manual. Please excuse my
ignorance. What is the "Project Manager" and how do I get to it? And many thanks in
advance to anyone who can answer this.

Re: [EXS] Help needed with Extreme anolog and plug-ins........

I've been doing a little more digging and unless I'm mistaken, Project Manager must
not be included in Logic Audio (only in Platinum and I'm not sure about Gold).
Anyway, I tried moving the instrument files to /Users/Shared/EXSPFactorySoundset
and that solved the problem for me. I hope this helps.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
