Chase and reset and group selection by controller

Chase and reset and group selection by controller

2003-12-08 by spamisevil2001

OK, I've read the other posts about reset and chase, but this is ridiculous! I finally got
into EXS24 again because I noticed it supported selecting groups by note, group,
controller, or PB. Hey, I thought, this means I can set up Giga style bank swithing -
great! Hah! Logic resets any controller I use to change banks. So if I've got Mod Wheel
(or any other controller actually - I tried cc13, for example) set to pick soft strings at
the bottom and loud string from 100-127, then every time I restart the sequencer, the
controller returns me to soft strings. This means that I would have to enter mod wheel
data into all of my tracks. But it's worse than that, because it means I can't expect to
start just anywhere I want in the song file and expect to hear the right sounds. I can
only start where I know that a mod wheel setting has been entered.

So all this bumf about Giga import, and controlling bank selection in EXS24 is just bumf
because you can't do that in Logic.

I'm not just complaining. I've tried every setting in the book, and 'no reset' on the
instrument (cabled to the softsynth), it all just doesn't work. Sometimes I wonder why I
bother. Maybe it was that one year learning curve back in the 1980s with C-Lab
Notator!

If anyone has managed to make this group selection by controller number work for
them, please let me know how. I'm at wits end. I say all of the above with great respect
for everyone on this list and hope nobody takes offense at the frustrated tone. We've all
been there I imagine: hours spent on BS rather than creating music!

Cheers!
John
