EXS 24 Logic Sampler Users Group

Hi all :O) 

Got a few questions with Logic ... I'm running version 5.51 on my 
ibook G3 900 & with OSX.2 - I will also put it on my main  G$ dual 
1,25 OS 9.2 downstairs soon, but it is nice & portable at the mo.. 
which is good for me  I am using an Oxygen 8 keyboard connected to 
the USB port for controllers & keys.
I have used both the EMI 2/6 driver, & the built in Mac one, which I 
am currently employing. I have stored the instruments & associated 
audio files on my external firewire drive, so that I can share them 
with my main G4 computer. 

I've just downloaded the manual addendum from this site thanks.

Ok.. here goes. 

1) I cant get the EXS 11 plugin to respond to any control changes .. 
I've set up control 90, which should be filter cutoff, according to 
the manual. I've also set the midi channel correctly... I don't know 
what else there is that I can tweak to get it to respond...I get the 
midi info showing correctly in the transport window... but no effect 
on the filter.

2) I cant get the editor to recognise .wav files when trying to 
import files to create a new instrument. The files appear in the 
selection box, but show up grayed out & wont play or select or do 
anything functional.

3) I cant find the AKAI import menu item, as was present in previous 
versions. Have they disabled this feature now?? 



I was using version 4.8 on OS9.2 I don't know if the OS will make a 
massive amount of difference?? 

Would be grateful of any info on the above :O)

I'm not an expert with Logic but to import Akai CDs your must put the 
CD-Rom in your CD drive and on the EXS control panel click "options" 
and you will get a pop up list for importing Akai, Soundfont, 
Samplecell, and Giga formats.  When you click on Akai a new window 
pops up showing the banks on your CD.  You can either click the banks 
you want to import or at the bottom there is a button for Convert 
entire CD.  

The Program names for the samples will be stores in the Logic 
5/Sampler Instruments folder and you can re-sort this any way you 
want.  The audio files will be placed in your Logic 5/Akai Samples 
folder.

Hi, Many thanks for the reply. The AKAI convert item is not present 
in my menue list.. only Soundfont convert, SampleCell convert, DLS 
convert, & Giga convert. The computer rejects the disc as unreadable 
if I try to insert an AKAI cd.

You're overlooking something.  Did you call emagic?  What color is 
your dongle?

Theres your trouble. Akai convert didnt return to Logic until 6.01.

Huh?  I'm using LAWP 5.5.0 with the EXS24mkII and Akai support is 
there.

Does this only apply to the Mac versions of Logic?
( I am using Logic 5.51 for Windows, and I do have an akai import option
....)

Maybe so?? I knew it just showed up after one of the updates in the last 
year, and checked the info file for 6.3.2.
Scrolled back to the notes for 6.01 and thats where it said that Akai 
Convert was added for the EXS24.
Windows hasnt changed the OS which is why the Windows users still had it..
Mac OS X didnt like to read Akai discs in the beginning. so it took a 
bit before Macs could use them again..
