How do you program your drum tracks?

How do you program your drum tracks?

2003-12-19 by Mark

I've never really "officially" learned the proper way to lay down
drum beats in Logic. It's painful as I play in real time on my keys
and then go back and fix it. Is there a better way? Do one of the
editors offer more? Either Hyper or Matrix?

Thanks,
Mark

Logic's Hyper Editor is excellent for programming drum parts. You can see and
edit the temporal placement and the velocities of all notes on the one screen
with one tool.

You can apply a "feel" to this programmed part either by A) using prefab swing
quantisation or B) extracting a "feel" from a played-in part (making your
recorded part into a groove template ) and then applying it to your programmed
drum part.

After reading your post I started working with it. It's quick and
makes writing dums tracks a snap. I created a one bar loop in real
time, quantized, duplicated it several times and then used the Hyper
Editor to vary the 8th and 16th measures of my phrases. Perfect!
Thanks!
