Release Samples?

Release Samples?

2004-02-02 by Michael Brook

Has anyone got the release samples in Giga instruments to work in EXS?

I've tried a few times, including turning import release samples option
on in Logic.

This seems to only get the note on sample to trigger again when the key
is released.

Thanks

Of course, that's the intent, but more specifically...

Sometimes you have to investigate a little bit in the editor to see what is
exactly happening. The editor doesn't display info in a comprehensive way,
I mean at one look, sometimes.

In a Group, there is a parameter that says "play this sample on note-on" or
"play this sample on note-off" - that's the "Trigger On" parameter. (Make
sure that in "View" you are seeing this parameter. I suggest selecting
"View All" so you see everything.)

"KeyDown" means note-on. "Key Release" means note-off.

Zones, the REAL sample references, can "connect" themselves to Groups. By
default, all samples play on note-on only, but if a Zone is attached to a
Group that is set to "note-off", that Zone will play only at note-off.

With your example, there is likely two zones involved - one set with it's
Group set to "Key Down", the other set to "Key Release". Which is usually
what the conversion intended - it's silly to have a key range just play a
note-off.

That's called "practicing mode" and doesn't disturb the neighbours :-).

Have you checked the <Group> parameters? (in EXS24)
First, make sure (in the EXS24 Instrument editor window) that you
select <View All> in the <View> menu. This displays all the possible
group parameters.
Look at the <Trigger on> field - it should say Key Release.
Then, make sure the release samples are assigned to that group.

If all is correctly assigned, then the release sample(s) will trigger
when you release the key(s).
