Exs24 demo won't load factory sample instruments?

Exs24 demo won't load factory sample instruments?

2004-01-31 by choros15

Hi,
I've searched for a solution and found others with the same problem but don't
understand how to solve this.
I've downloaded the demo version of the exs24 using 6.3.3 and 10.3.1.I have the
sampler instruments folder in my Logic 6 series folder. There is a folder called
#factory. In there is the factory instruments ending in .exs.
I open the exs24 and click in the black space on the upperish rightish corner and
the drop down menu doesn't show the instruments. What do I have to do to get the
instruments to load?Shouldn't they automatically be there?I would really appreciate
any help on this as I'm getting very frustrated trying to use it.
Also I stumbled upon this after a day of worry and frustration over the stereo grand
missing from my sampler instrument folder but appearing in the EXSamples folder:on
the sonikmatter sight I was searching how to load samples and found a link from
oscwilde to the emagic support files page I believe.Anyway it has the stereo grand
sampler instrument for download and a note saying it was mistakingly left off the
volume 8cd...well it was left off the volume 7 cd as well as that is the one I have.I
thought I lost it somehow...oh the worry!!
Also on the volume 7 cd all the manuals I have are in Engish EXCEPT for the
exs24mkii which is in German.I'm new to all this and these LITTLE things have caused
me much frustration over the last couple days.I just want to make some music...does
anyone know how I can get the exs24 sampler demo to load these sampler
instruments(now that I have them all) or know of a thread or anyplace I can learn how
to use it.
Please and Thank you for for listening and any help!!

     Jay

I just had the same problem and someone on this list
helped me. Are you sure you are looking in the right
place? You should be clicking somewhere in that blank
black screen right above the knob labelled "cutoff".

Neither did I get that sample and would love to check
it out. Where is it available? Thanks, JP

Make sure you don't have any other old Logic Apps or
more than one sample instruments folder on any of your connected drives.
I spent a while trying to track down solutions to this as well.

Hey James,
Yes I'm clicking on the right place. It just gives me a drop down menu that has:
                                    No Insrument
                                    Clear Find
                                     Find
                                    Refresh Menu
My Sampler Instrument folder is located in my Logic 6 Series folder as well...
Anybody know what's going on with this or what I have to do to get this thing to
work?
That link for the stereo grand is http://www.emagicusa/supportfiles/
I luckily stumbled upon this on the Sonikmatter.com site.I can't find this page
anywhere on the emagic site though...
I hope that "someone" on this list that helped you can help me too!!:-)
     Thanks,

Yes, they should. I suppose you already tried the "Refresh" option
in the instrument list? How about moving the Logic preferences to
the desktop and then relaunching Logic -- would that do anything?
Next thing to try: create a new instrument (click the Edit button in
the EXS to open the Instrument Editor, create a new zone and assign
some sample to it, then save the instrument in the proper folder).
Does this newly created instrument appear in the instrument list?

---Thanks for responding Hendrik,
I dragged the Logic 6 Series folder to my desktop and then opened my Logic song
and tried to use the exs24 and again No Instruments in the menu.Is this what you
meant to try when you said move the Logic preferences?
Your next suggestion:I I'm not sure what this is or how to do it.I opened the
Instrument Editor and clicked Zone but all the choices, including new zone, in the
drop down menu are greyed out.
I can click on the Instrument tab then click New in it's drop down menu then Click
the Zone tab and that let's me choose New Zone.I then get a box on my screen that
has Zone #1 in the upper left corner.Underneath that is Audio File with a blank space
to it's right.Underneath that it says Group and next to it says No Group in the Blank
Space. There are other choices below these in the box as well.
Can you walk me through this?Any other thoughts?
  And yes,I've tried "Refresh"...many times:-(
    Thanks Again,
    Jay

No :). In OS9 the prefs are in System:Preferences:Logic 5
Preferences. In OSX they're... (I always forget, still being on 9
myself) something with 'emagic' and 'plist'. Look both in the
system prefs folder (top level of your HD and then Preferences) and
in the user-prefs folder (your home folder, and then Preferences).
Then locate some emagic...plist file. Move it to the desktop,
relaunch Logic, check if the problem has gone away. If not: move the
prefs-file back (overwriting the newly created one). If the problem
did go away, don't trash the old prefs-file yet, as it contains your
custom keycommands: open the Key Command window in Logic, and pick
'import' (or something like that) from the menu, locate the old
prefs-file and import the key commands from it. _Now_ you can safely
trash the old prefs file.
Tip: if the prefs indeed were the cause of the problem, make a backup
copy of the new (properly working) prefs file that Logic created
(after you've adjuested the prefs in Logic to your taste of course),
so that if you ever need to remove the prefs-file again, you'll still
have a properly working copy (saves quite some time setting up your
preferences next time around).

That's a new instrument you created with 1 zone: exactly what I meant.

>Underneath that is Audio File with a blank space to it's right.

Click in the blank space and a file-dialog will come up. Pick some
sample from your harddisk (just don't pick a 2 GB recording, but
something modest, like a kick drum, or a violin note, or whatever).
You've now created a 1-sample EXS instrument.

>Underneath that it says Group and next to it says No Group in the Blank
>Space. There are other choices below these in the box as well.

Ignore all the rest. Just put a sample in the zone, as described
above. Then pick 'Save As' from the same menu where you found 'New'
and save the instrument in the Sampler Instruments folder. Close the
Instrument Editor and check the EXS instrument list: is your new
instrument showing up?

> And yes,I've tried "Refresh"...many times:-(

Are you sure you only have *1* "Sampler Instruments" folder in your
system, and that it is in the same folder in which the Logic
application itself lives?
