EXSP or EXS for multiple samples?

EXSP or EXS for multiple samples?

2004-01-31 by betina22000

I'm planning on getting the Logic Audio Express. I will use a lot of
samples with the EXSP sampler including Sam Horns, Westlake Woodwinds
and Sonic strings. Will the EXSPlayer (or multiple EXS players) in
Express handle this, or does this require the EXS mark II in the Pro
version? I'm on a G4 MDD 1.24DP, OS10.2.8. Thanks

The biggest shortcoming of the EXSP vs the EXS (apart from the
obvious fact that the P is just a player and won't let you edit
instruments) is that the EXSP doesn't support streaming from disk.
That means that it has to load all samples in RAM, which will cause
problems if you try to play a 2-gigabyte acoustic grand piano on a
512 MB machine. I don't know how big the instruments are you plan on
using, but this might be a consideration. Obviously even with
relatively small instruments you'll also run into problems if you try
to load 50 of them -- the sum of the loaded instruments shouldn't
exceed the available physical RAM.

Thanks, Hendrik -- that's what I was afraid of. I try to get a fairly
large orchestration (traditional classical). I do, however, have 2G of
RAM. I guess I'll have to struggle along with that and Express until I
can upgrade to Pro.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
