weaning off hardware with EXS24

Hello all, Longtime Logic user here but new to EXS24 thanks to the Logic Pro upgrade. I 've followed the general buzz on the EXS but now have had my first chance to dig into it. This is not a critical review just my impressions that maybe those of you who have already been here can enlighten me on. Well? I'm underwhelmed. Aside from how beautifully it integrates into Logic and all the housekeeping benefits that offers as a sampler I'm asking "where's the beef?" I'm just coming off of the EMU EOS system that I had been using for 7 years and am sorely missing some things in the EXS. I knew beforehand that the EXS' filters and synthesis flexibility would be crude in comparison but there's one thing that I'm really wondering about with the EXS. Velocity crossfading. I see that you can do velocity switching of samples but I'm used to being able to cross fade them dynamically. Where at say vel 60 the next sample starts to fade in and say at vel 80 you can have the first sample finally fade out. This was key to getting very natural playing instruments. I have drumkits built on the Clearmountain samples that we tweaked finely enough that very nuanced drummers on Vdrums triggering the EMU would be very pleased with. Am I missing something about the EXS? I know some are doing orchestral stuff on the EXS and are even using the VSL stuff. How does it come across? I can't imagine that it would sound natural with the different velocity samples hard switching across one velocity integer. How is it being done? Also has anyone converted their sample libraries from other formats such as EMU or Kurzweil that have more sophisticated voicing. How well does it translate? Is Chickensys the app to use? Anyone who has been through this or has opinions please let me know what you think. I'm not trying to elicit a hard vs soft sampler debate. That's kind of pointless now. I'm just feeling that maybe my EMU needs to go back in the rack. And I was so getting used to the idea of no CD roms, midi cables, etc.
