using multi channel

2004-06-10 by prospero_@yahoo.com

Hi trying to figure out how to use multi channel with EXS24. I can set the first instance, but
then can't seem to set outputs 3-16 on the other instances. what's up? Any help
apreciated.

open the exs instrument editor. the default "output" setting is called something like "main" or "out1-2". click on it and a scroll list opens up. This list should give you a choice of OUT 1-2, OUT 3-4, OUT 5-6, OUT 7-8, OUT 9-10, OUT 11, OUT 12, OUT 13, OUT 14, OUT 15 or OUT 16. (So the first half are stereo outs, the rest mono - but don't worry too much about that since, unless the actual samples u're using r stereo files it doesn't make a difference: u can always turn a mono output into a stereo aux track)

once you've set up your outputs in the instrument editor, they should be available in the aux input menu.

Please see FAQ 18.16 at http://logicfaq.omega-art.com/ which
describes the use of multiple EXS outputs in some detail.

Ok, I read the faq, but still don't really know what to do. I can set the Aux outs to 3-4,5-6
etc. but it all plays whatever is in the original exs instance. I'm trying to set it up to mix
down a dry kit, overhead kit and room kit, like in the mixtended drums by wizoo. Their
sample only has one track. So any ideas? I'm stuck.

Thanks for the faq info though, very usefull.

Not sure if I fully understand what you try to accomplish...

If you want to load multiple EXS instruments into one EXS instance:
that can't be done, and you'll have to create a layered instrument to
achieve the same effect. Open instrument editors for both
instruments, select all and copy in one and then paste in the other.
Save under a new name and load in the EXS. If both original
instruments have all zones assigned to a group (so that the merged
instrument ends up having two groups, one for each instrument) then
it's rather straightforward to assign e.g. the 1st instrument to
Out1-2 and the 2nd to Out3-4. Note though that both instruments will
play simultaneously, since the EXS isn't multi-timbral.

If you want multi-timbral EXS use: can't be done either. Just load
up 2 EXS instances. If you want all midi to remain on one track
(carrying e.g. data on channels 1 and 2, to be sent to 2 different
EXS's), cable a Channel Splitter into both EXS mixer strips (outlet 1
to the 1st and outlet 2 to the 2nd) and assign the Arrange track to
this Channel Splitter.

If you want 'plain' multi-outputs: please realise that you need to
edit the EXS instrument to take advantage of multiple outputs. In
the instrument editor, assign zones or groups to Out1-2, Out3-4, etc.

If none of the above answers your question, then please rephrase the
question in a way such that someone with my limited abilities can
understand it :).

Thanks for the responses. What i wanted can't be done. I need to use three tracks of EXS to
mix the three drum sets. I'm not sure how they did it in the wizoo demo track.
