EXS 24 Logic Sampler Users Group

Does anyone know exactly how the EXS group option 'select by group' works (as opposed 
to 'select by note' which is self-explanatory)? 

It's easy to set up: 

zone>group>'switch by note' 

but it seems you can't set-up: 

zone>group>'switch by group'>new group>'switch by note' 

I have been trying to make an EXS24 patch within which I can key-switch between 
alternate bass drums, snares, hi-hats, selecting 'by note' for different kit 'group' 
combinations. 

I have mapped different bass drums (for example) to the same key and have those zones 
pointing to their own groups eg. 'Sonor bass drum' and 'Premier Bass Drum' which in turn 
have 'select by group' pointing towards another group eg 'Sonor Kit' and 'Premier Kit'.' 

These 'Kit' groups then have 'select by note' assignations so as I can switch a bunch of 
sub-groups, as it were, all at once. 

Problem is it doesn't work! So what's 'select by group' for?
