As it stands, the EXS can't recognize an Akai/audio (mixed-mode) CD-ROM,
but there is a relatively simple work-around:

- Use a program like CD-Copy to extract the Akai CD-ROM section and save
it to your hard drive as a disc image file.

- Use Toast (or some other CD application) to write that disc image to a
CD.

- You now have an Akai-only CD-ROM that the EXS will happily read.

Dear Daniel

Thanks very much for you help. Everything is perfect
now.

Cheers

I'm having the infamous problem with the Akai/audio CD roms. I
tried this work around...2 different programs...CD-copy (via Virtual
PC) and Discribe and both failed attempting to write the Akai
portion of the disc. I tried 2 different CD's also. It gets down to
the very last bit of information in the track and reports failure in
the case of Discribe, and reports an error in the case of CD
Copy. I've used both the CD drive in my Mac and also a Sony
espressa so the CD's and the drives aren't the problem. Is there
something basic that I'm missing here. I would sure appreciate
the help as about half of my library is mixed mode.

An interesting tidbit.... The exs was able to convert files from
these same mix mode CD's in version 4.6.1. I converted
hundreds of files from my Advanced Orchestra CD's.

thanks in advance
julie

FWIW, when I mentioned CD-Copy, I was referring to a Mac-only program
from a company called Astarte. Unfortunately, the program doesn't seem to
be supported any more.

Have you tried Joeri's alternate workaround?:

Can you use LAM 4.6.1 to convert your files?
