Logic 9 crashes on selecting instrument...

Logic 9 crashes on selecting instrument...

2004-11-23 by Andy Hardwake

Hi guys,

This just happened for the first time here. I've added some libraries
to my EXS folder and now Logic doesn't let me click on the instrument
selector crashing in a moment... I thought it was a broken alias (my
sampler instruments folder is placed with Logic 6.4.3 folder and I
really hate to copy it to Logic 9). Surprisingly, Logic X works fine.
Is there different instrument limits for EXS 9 and X or can there be
another kind of problem? Thanks in advance.

Logic 6.4.3 9/X, 3 HDs worth of samples, etc., etc.

Best,

Andy

Hey guys,

Troubleshooting this problem turned to be much more fun than I ever expected. I tried
taking out those libraries, deleting prefs, deleting autoload, reinstalling Logic Pro,
reinstalling Logic 6.0 - 6.3, reinstalling to another drive, checking RAM and many many
other solutions and got nowhere. Logic crashes as soon as I click on the instrument
selector, period. Now EXS is unusable on my OS 9 system. Any thoughts? Thanks in
advance.

Best,

Andy

Re: Logic 9 crashes on selecting instrument... - solved

Holy crap!!! I took out the OMS extension and voila, everything's back to work... Now I
remember it started the day I bought my Logic Control and configured it in both Logic and
OMS for Pro Tools. What could have happened?!! Now how can I use OMS in addition to
Logic's own driver to use non-emagic instruments the way I used it before? Still too many
questions.

Best to all,

Andy

I installed LP7 a few days ago. It's working fine but now I'd like to
relocate the EXS samples to another (non boot) drive. After installing
7 directly over the top of 6.4.1 all I see in the Applications folder
is icons for the LP7 and Waveburner apps themselves and the Logic 6
Series folder that was there before. I presume this means the EXS
samples from LP7 have gone in to the Logic 6 Series folder? How could I
check? Is there a sample that's unique to 7?

I could move them in the obvious way but what do I need to do to ensure
the EXS finds them?

thanks in advance
Andris

They're in Library > Application Support> Logic > EXS Factory Samples.

I see them. Thanks Guy. So I wonder what the ones in the Logic 6 Series
folder are (EXSamples and Sampler I nstrument)? Could I trash these
ones and be assured of having a full set in the Library?

I'm reposting this with the correct subject line.

The location in L7 is library/application support/logic

This where the sampler instruments folder (or an alias pointing to it)
needs to be.

You can put the samples folder wherever you want, they should be found
as long as they are on a drive that is connected to your computer. If
you you move them it may help to run a scan in project manager.

Thanks a lot Pete and Sascha, exactly the info I needed.
