Where is the Empereor Group Buy taking place? Or did I just imagine that :-) Also, do people think it's worth having both the Emperor and the Old Lady or would the Old Lady suffice for most jobs? G

I compared the Old Lady to the Emperor and when I found out that the group buy was extended to the Emperor I immediately contacted Michiel to change my order to the Emperor. But it is a matter of personal taste. I found the Emperor to sound more like the pianos I have known and more like the sound I expect from a piano. The Old Lady has a mellow sound which would certainly have its applications. The group buy is at: http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26687&page=1&pp=10 Tom

Just had a look. If I understand correctly, at least for Old Lady, real time pedaling is not supported in EXS. Does this mean that if you load an EXS instance, you can't play normally through a controller using the pedal? If so, sounds like a serious limitation. Or maybe I'm not understanding correctly. I presently use the East-West Steinway. Has anyone on this list used Ivory? I'm not sure if it's available as EXS, but if not, I'm not sure how you'd use it in Logic. If anyone has used Ivory and Emperor/Old Lady, would there be any comparisons out there? If you're looking for half-pedaling, no I don't think that it's supported. But regular on-off pedaling is said to work just fine. > Has anyone on this list used Ivory? You load it just like any other individual plugin. I don't own either yet, but this is the info that I've been given. Regards, -Mark

Thanks, Mark. I'm confused, though. What, then, is meant by the "real time pedaling" (which I would have assumed to be regular on-off pedaling) which appears to be stated by the Old Lady website to be not supported in EXS? That's assuming I understood the website correctly.

> What, then, is meant by the "real time pedaling" On a real piano there are various ways you can use the sustain pedal, beyond normal on/off pedaling, that are used to generate certain "non-standard" effects. This is what's being referred to. To my knowledge, there is no piano library that does this. But EXS does normal on/off pedaling just fine. And someone on this list has an environment for Logic that will allow to you to even use the pedal release samples that are included with the Old Lady for more realism. Hope this helps, -Mark
