Drums

2005-01-08 by Eli Krantzberg

Hi Fellow EXSers,

Just wanted to let you all know about a sample set I have done that I
am making available to everyone. It is an old Yamaha drum kit. I have
included a Read Me with the download with specific details on the drum
sizes. It's basically an old "retro" type sounding kit with a small
bass drum and small standard toms.

A big thanks goes out to Garth from Chicken Systems who did the dirty
work for me of converting and cleaning up all the files in order to
make sure they are PC friendly, and for hosting them on his new EXS
site.

You can find them here:

www.exs24.org (go to the downloads link)

Enjoy!

Thanks to Eli and Garth for this nice little kit - much appreciated.

[EXS] DD Solo Strings

2005-01-27 by Sean McCoy

I recently bought Dan Dean's Solo Strings CD, and though it sounds great
and imports well into EXS from its native Giga format, the sustains aren't
looped and are quite short due to its origin as a hardware-based library.
Dan sent me some .art update files with sustained loops, but of course EXS
can't do anything with those. I don't believe Translator or CDXtract can
convert .art files to EXS, either. Does anybody happen to have--and are
willing to share--these looped files in EXS format? I can take them in
Kontakt format as well. Any help appreciated.

Translator on Windows does. An .art file is essentially all new Instrument
information without the samples.

Translator takes the .art info and connects it to the .gig file, if it's
the same name. If a same-name doesn't exist, it asks you which .gig file to
connect too. But I think you are using Mac - if you have a Win machine you
can do this.

We were going to make a utility that updates .gig files with appropriate
.art files, but haven't had a chance. Perhaps I should do that today or
something.

If not, I'm in California at the moment through Monday - if you are willing
to wait 'Til Tuesday, I'll "carry those voices" over Internet to you. =)
Specifically, I think you are looking for .exs files that have been
converted from the ".arted" .gig files, instead of the "version 1" .gig
files, since the new loop points are in the Instrument data, not the samples.

Sorry, Garth, I didn't realize that. I do have Translator on both
platforms, so I'll give it a go. Thanks!

Let me know! I talked to Dan this AM, he'd like to know what happens too.

While I haven't tried this yet, I have to say this is an awesome
feature! Translator just keeps getting better and better.

Oh I have to thank you once again Garth and let other users of
Translator know as well about a feature I requested awhile back for
easier organization of .exs programs when translating. You can add a
prefix or a suffix to your .exs programs automatically when converting.
For example, if you have the Wizoo Platinum 24 drums in Akai format,
you can have all of the .exs programs automatically be preceeded by WIZ
or with WIZ appended to the end of the name. If I recall correctly,
you can have 5 or 6 characters in total for each (prefix and/or
suffix).

Some people may be thinking "big deal". I found out (and I know some
people have encountered this as well) if you have 2 different exs
programs named exactly the same (ie Rock Kit.exs), when you reload your
Logic song, Logic will load up only the first one it finds which may
not be the same. By adding a prefix or suffix, you can make it unique
and will always work. By using the same prefix/suffix for each of your
libraries, you don't have to go through and rename a bunch of your
programs or look for duplicates. I come up with an abbreviated name
for everything that I can use as a prefix. This way, I can have WIZ
Rock Kit.exs, YT Rock Kit.exs, and DFH Rock Kit.exs and always load up
the correct one.

I have found it useful and thought that it might help other people here
who also use Translator.

Hi Garth, Is this feature going to be available for Mac in the future?

As an Easter present I'll put it in today; I'll email to say when it's up.

(And no, there will be no Easter egg in the program - at least one we'd
tell you about =))

Did this updated get posted? I'm very interested in this as well.
