I think that for basses Spectrasonics' Trilogy should be a very good choice.
For pads there's a lot of choices I think. Again Spectrasonics comes to
mind, Athmosphere is basically designed to suit your pad needs, but IMO the
engine is a bit lame (most likely to be updated some day...).
Personally, I like Absynth a lot and also FM7 is doing a great job - both at
an amazingly low CPU expense.

Sascha is right on about Absynth. It not only has great pads, but 
lots of highly evocative basses, ethnic sounds, etc. Some are so 
complex and evolving, that you wonder how they did them. Kinda of 
like the Korg Wavestation or Waldorf Wave, but way beyond and not 
dated. The programmability is awesome and you can tweak away for 
days to create endless new sounds. The new Absynth II is probably 
even better.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
