does anyone have an environment where playing a ONE kit (like an exs24 instrument of a standard GM set up work orpreferably with a GM set and the INTERACTIVE DRUM KIT (cd-rom)) where i can play a patter using the one patch and each drum is outputted thru it¹s own channel so i can apply individual compression, eq, etc, to each drum? do i need to make an exs24 occurrence for each drum itself? help!!! tv [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

It must be configured that way. Actually I do not know of a drum kit which does what you want (but I don't know many). Wizoo's mextended drums for example have a separate output for dry, room and overhead sound but not single parts. You can do that on your own if you either duplicate a kit and store the parts as single instruments or set different EXS outputs in the instrument editor - than you get the single parts out via Aux objects. ___ Peter Ostry

(only audio outs) can you (or anyone) help in a more step-by-step manner? many thanks. tv

----------
Method 1, individual channels:
Load a drumkit into EXS. Use the popup menu "option" and save it
under new names preferably in a new folder within your EXS Sampler
Instruments. Basicly like this:
MyDrums
Bassdrum.exs
Snare.exs
Toms.exs
...and so on, how many you want
Now do "refresh menu" once in the instrument popup and you should see
your new folder and instruments (which are all the same complete kit
at the moment).
Load the Bassdrum.exs and klick on "edit". Locate the keys for the
kick. Sometimes you can tell them by the name, sometimes you have to
listen to the samples (klick the small "E" for that). Delete all
zones below the keys which are not kicks. Then execute once "Groups-
>Delete unused groups" to get rid of what you do not need. Say
"Instrument->save" and close the window. Now you have one EXS
instrument with just the bassdrum. Do the same to Snare, Toms, etc.
Never forget to copy ("Save as") I mentioned above before you modify
an instrument!
----------
Method 2, multichannel:
I think you were rather close to the solution. Probably you just
forgot to load the EXS as "Multichannel" instead of Mono or stereo
from the audio instrument menu.
Go to an audio instrument, load "Multichannel->EXS". Then again,
"Save as" the instrument under a different name. When your new name
is in the name field, click on "Edit".
The following is just an example, because the situation depends how
that drum kit is organized. I tell you the easiest way, assuming that
there are already properly named groups with the part names: open the
group "Kick" and look at the field "EXS output". It is most likely
set to "All". Set it to 3-4 for example. Now open the group "HiHat",
set it to 5-6. Save the instrument and close the istrument editor.
Now get a stereo Aux object and look into its "Input" menu. You will
see not only outputs and busses but also the name of the instrument
where the EXS sits at the moment. Choose one of the shown channel
pairs. Make a new Aux object and set its input to the second channel
pair.
From now on all notes which belong to an EXS group will sound in one
of the Aux objects.

Hope that helps, I couldn't explain it much shorter...
