Hey, we forgot E-mu, Ensoniq and Casio SK-1! :-)

Wouldn't it be better to have 3rd party companies working on their
own converter apps? What if Emagic can't get to *your* sampler right
away, but maybe next year, or the next? *Cough* WaveBurner...

CDextract even supports EXS24 as a destination format.

I would like to see multiple outs and a modulation matrix, though.

If (as announced at MusicMesse 2001) the EXS24 is going to have the ability
to spool files up from the hard-drive like Gigasampler does -- it would be
highly desirable that it be able to read/convert Gigasampler instruments
(gig files).
There are many of these available already and many large instruments eg
pianos are only available in this format. A decent grand piano sample set -
on a par with the GigaPiano but with 24 bit samples would be a very
desirable addition to the factory sounds.

Murray

This really falls under the sampler/format support poll.

Just checked out these polls for the first time.

What strikes me is that these wishes are basically small ones compared to
the big issues.
My neightboard studio, wich uses Cubase etc, just got the Halion sampler.
It have multiple outs wich lets you send your snare to a reverb and let the
kick go dry.
(I know that you just use two instruments inside logic, but hey... Different
aux settings should be for every sample inside a drumkit I think.

The Halion also (of course) have a highpass and a bandpass filter.
Who makes synths without it these days...?

A lot of hardwaresamplers also have the possibility to have different
filtersettings for each drum (sample) inside a drumset. Also eq and aux
settings. Even Vienna on a SB card does that.

And the fact that Logic is shipping a sampleplayer version of their sampler
is special.
First of all both the EXS24 and the Halion _is_ sample players.
You cannot record with them, but you have to record inside another program
and then import the files to the sampler.
It would actually be nice to have the option of recording directly on a
EXS24 track and have the recording directly inside the sampler.

I think Logic should really ship a full version, with a sample editor etc...
or else I wouldn't even consider it over the Halion
I actually thought of crossgrading my version of the EXS24 to the VST
version since I also use Paris a lot, but there you go...

BTW: I see here:
http://www.emagic.de/english/products/instruments/exsp24.html
that the EXSP24 have multiple outputs.
What's that about?
Is it a feature that we don't have in the EXS24 or will it come here too?

BTW2: I own my EXS24 and I love it for what it does :)

Where does it say that? General comments: Your concerns deserve applause,
but you should also consider that integrated software samplers are extremely
new and Logic was one of the first to release such a product. Halion came
out much, much later than the EXS and I was desperate for anything that
could do what either offers. Thank God the EXS came out when it did.
However, I strongly hope for the features mentioned by you as well as those
covered in the poles. Thanks for addressing the additional issues that, if
incorporated, would put the EXS above all other soft-samplers.... Jer

Unfortunately, the poll doesn't reflect the number of people who use more
than one operating system. For example: I voted for OSX and XP. I do not use
XP for music, I use it gaming and network administrative testing. If the
question is about music, then I will be using OSX almost exclusively. -Jer

Re: [EXS] New poll for exs-users

2003-11-09 by Wayne Folta

I voted YES, but would love to have another choice:

* Yes, and include a thorough appendix on ESXP24 and the differences
with the EXS24.

I have the EXSP24 and would like better docs. But I am also left
wondering about issues such as: where, if anywhere, does a lack of user
controls map into a lack of (or difference in) instrument/sample
features from the EXS?

It could appear that the EXS and EXSP share the same core and internal
functionality, but the EXSP does not allow user manipulation of some of
the functionality. Or... maybe they're completely different instruments
that happen to import the same kind of instrument/sample files and that
may or may not support the same features of those files.

I know I've had some weirdness in ProSamples EXS instruments, where
some samples were pitched an octave too high and sounded like
chipmunks, for example. I've experienced other strangeness from time to
time with EXSP that I've chalked up to bugs, but maybe it boils down to
not fully supporting EXS file features.
