Anyone bought the sampled keyboard DVDs from WWW.INSPIRATIONSOUNDS.CO.UK or www.flossmodestudios.com?

These products appear to supply the sounds of various keyboards/synths
in sample format. I am curious how good they are. I myself usually just
flick through sounds on my Korg Trinity Rack until I find one that I
like. I don't really edit them. I usually only edit sounds on my Nord
Lead 2 or Logics software synths. I am using the supplied EXS
instruments alot these days. As I find them to be very high quality. I
would like to buy a big hard drive and fill it with quality sampled
instruments.

My understanding of sound libraries is that I can have sampled
instrument patches which have less sound parameter options because they
are samples. Or parameter patches for use with synths. I would love to
be able to select different synth patches for my Nord Lead 2 and Logic
soft synths and save and organise the ones I like. Maybe I just need to
learn how. Is there anywhere people share synth patches?

What other products do you guys recommend for giving me more sound
options. I'm into more funky organic synth sounds than harsh techno
stuff. I also like good bread and butter instruments. The EXS mute
guitar is way better than my Korg TR-Racks mute guitars.
Peace.

Hi,
I just received my Flossmode Studios sample discs of the Triton,
MOTIF ES, and the Fantom X! These sounds are amazing! I've tried
them with the EXS24 in Logic Pro 7 but it seems I have to adjust
the release on some of them. However, when I converted them for
Machfive the release times were better and actually easier for me
to edit since I'm more familiar with it. However, can anyone help
with info on shortning release times with the EXS24?

Did you get the 'next level' versions or 'unleashed'? 'Next level' is
multi sampled and 'Unleashed' is just middle C sampled.
I am curious how well these products work compared to the original
keyboard. I realise that they are not looped. So a long sustained note
is not possible like on the original keyboards. How long are the notes?
Are the shorter percussive sounds like say a mute guitar sampled
shorter. I just imagine the sampling may have been automated at a
certain length. Are the drum samples edited. Some sample CDs have many
seconds of silence after each drum. IOW the ends are not edited.
I am planning on purchasing some flossmode sounds. If we trade then we
could halve the expense.
I am specifically waiting on a drums only collection which I have
requested and have been assured will be available soon. It will have
all the drums of all the flossmode products. But if I buy a couple of
products like Mo Phatt etc then we could have the full products anyway
by sharing.
How much hard drive space does each product use?
I am also a Logic 7, exs24 user. These products certainly seem exciting
if they can provide the sounds of these flagship keyboards. What other
comments can you offer me in way of a review of the sounds. How well do
the patches perform? What is the sound quality like? I would assume for
products these organised they would have a nice sound card and know
about good levels etc.
I see the Fantom X is only available as 'unleashed' this means the
sounds are just one sample, middle C. I would assume these to be
unuseable.
Holla back,
Roman Pirie.

Roman and all,
I purchased the "Next Level" sounds. And yes, they are and I lie not just as the original
keyboards sounds! Now, I use Logic 7 but I very rarely use the EXS24 sampler. I use
MOTU's MachFive 99% of the time. It's much easier for me to edit with. Triton, Fantom-X,
and Motif ES sounds came on a total of 20 DVD's!! That's right 20 DVD's; approximately
80gb of sounds!! I went and purchased a Seagate 400gb IDE Barracuda drive for $265 US
for future Flossmode sample discs. I'm using a Mac G4 Dual 1gig Quicksilver which won't
format a drive larger than 137gb so I had to purchase a Sonnet Tempo ATA 133 card to
make use of the entire drive. When I loaded keyboard patches in the EXS24 in Logic I
couldn't get the release time shortened on some them, which I'm sure was because of my
lack of knowledge of the sampler and it's editing capabilities. However, in MachFive, I
shortened release times from 1.33352 tp 1.33351 on some patches and Bamm!!! The
sounds are off the chain! I mean natural sustain, killer drums, basses, percussion! Getting
over $6000 worth of synthezizers for $300 USA plus shipping is incredible! Because this is
such a bargain everyone should buy their own and not copy these discs or trade them.
This guy is going to be the "new sampling guru"! Have you tried the Motif Next Level
Soundfont Demo? If not, register on www.flossmodestudios.com and download it and
convert it with EXS24 or Motu MachFive and get blown away. You may want to email or call
him and get the scoop on what he has to offer because some of the sounds that are
available aren't on his website yet. I'm Luvin' em' and I'm sure you all will too!! So let's go
buy em'!

Well, that seems circular, as I'm right now wondering how long it
will take for Roland, Yamaha and Korg to get wind of this "business
plan."

Once again, I registered on their forum to hear the posted demos but
received no email confirmation. The demo links from their tiny
handful of product pages just 404 out. So I guess I'm 100% s.o.l.
Bottom line: If they can't keep a VERY simple web site up to date,
how am I supposed to trust them on anything else?

Btw, how did you find out so much about them if I can't?

Yeah..

> I'm so confused: How can this be legal?
There's the rub - technically it is not... it is, in fact, totally illegal
and in most courts or law across the world could be prosecuted under various
copyright laws and laws relating to 'unfair trading'.

It's the audio equivalent of of taking images from the latest movie
blockbuster (say 'Narnia' or 'Harry Potter 4') and running off T-shirts to
sell at a car boot sale (or, indeed, on a website). It is also pretty much
the equivalent of copying/sampling any of the major sound libs (Garritan,
VSL, East-West, whatever) and selling those as 'your own'.

Think about it for a moment: Korg, Yamaha, Roland - whoever - spend $1.5
millions developing a new product (including teams of sound designers across
the world making new sounds for it). The product price is set according to
projected sales in order to recoup those substantial R+D investments. It
goes into production and hits the streets. And then some twat like this come
along, samples all the sounds and sells 'em for peanuts. Not only that, this
one brags that you don't need to spend $2,500 on the original keyboard;
$14.99 will get you the lot!! Hmmmmm!

To be honest, I believe that promoting this Floss product here is
contravening the fine and upstanding policy regarding piracy that this forum
upholds. Think about it for a moment: I doubt anyone would report user/tech
problems regarding any 3rd-party sound lib (such as the aforementioned
Garritan, VSL, East-West, whatever) that had been similarly ripped off. In
fact, I doubt the message would even make it up for public consumption...
the rigorous moderator would censor it! It's no different.

Furthermore, many of these companies have teams of legal eagles looking out
for such contraventions - Floss could be in serious trouble if/when found
out. He could be slammed with (at the very least) 'cease and desist' orders
from the company's attorneys, could be charged for copyright convention of
their sounds, for using (even *abusing*) their registered trademark, etc..

I am sure the guy is acting in all innocence but what he is doing is
technically illegal. Technically as well, anyone who subscribes to his
products by buying them is complicit in an act of piracy of intellectual
copyright.

Best regards,

Steve

Thanks for this, Steve. Until we can clarify that these sample
libraries are absolutely bona fide, in accordance with our long
standing list policy, we will not accept any further posts praising or
advising people to buy them. Offering them under the names of current
synthesizer products from major MI manufacturers certainly seems
dubious.

Re: [EXS] question about editing loop points in logic sample editor

2006-01-05 by Yusuf Jurgen Frenz

Hi,

when clicking on the E button in the "zone" window the
sample editor opens and it is possible to edit the
loop points etc graphically. The values from the zone
window are read into the sample editor window and when
dragging the LS and LE points the values are updated
in the zone display of EXS.
This works at times, but at other times the changes
that I do in the graphic display ar NOT reflected in
the EXS zone window. Is there something that I have to
"activate"?
Logic Pro 7.1.1

Cheers and thanks in advance

Dear Logic-Users,

I am very concerned about the implications on my company reputation as one of your posts is appearing as "number 3" and "number 4" in Google Search results when a customer searches for our domain name. It includes very misleading information which could have a negative impact on our company and brand. Here is the link to this post:

http://logic-users.org/forums/EXS/thread/4894

And here is the impact it is having on Google...

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=www.inspirationsounds.co.uk&meta=

I totally understand that the views expressed are not your own, and that this is a forum, however, I am requesting that you (as the moderator of the site) remove any pages that refer to us acting in any type of "illegal activity". We have never sold illegal products, and we would never do this. We are a legitimate Sample CD retailer (and developer). We buy our products from Time+Space, Loopmasters, AMG, etc... Thirdly, we are major contributors to the "Anti-Piracy" forums that are being set up to counteract Piracy on torrent sites. I would be happy for you to contact any of the above suppliers to confirm that we are a 100% legitimate retailer of Sample CDs. If you ask them what Jan Franklin's attitude to illegal downloads of Sample CDs is.. You will get a VERY strong reaction. We are systematically going through all of the major developers urging them to take ACTION against illegal sites and individuals who are destroying the industry.

For a short while we did sell some Synthesizer Patch sample cds, however, these did not include the original patches from the original synthesizers and therefore, this was not unlawful. They were simply recordings of fresh "non-factory" presets, very much like developers of new synth sound banks make money from selling patches for the Access Virus, etc. One of your users states:

"it is, in fact, totally illegal and in most courts or law across the world could be prosecuted under various copyright laws and laws relating to 'unfair trading' "

I don't appreciate this. I also think the way that our company name (Inspiration Sounds) seems to be linked with www.flossmodestudios.com is also misleading. We have nothing to do with this company and we have no associations with them. I have sent this email to your "WHOIS" lookup email address, but I thought I would also post it here so your users no our stance on this matter. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this.

Kind regards,

Jan Franklin (Owner - Inspiration Sounds)
