[EXS] Any good bell tree collections?

[EXS] Any good bell tree collections?

2006-01-24 by paul

I'm suffering from a paucity of good bell tree samples. Up-sweeps, down-sweeps, fast, slow, starting low, starting medium, starting high, etc. Anyone have a recommendation?

Thanks!

A CDROM called 'Akai 2000 percussion sounds' has 13 bell tree samples.

Are you actually talking about bell trees, which are the vertical,
conical series of circular bells, usually played as a fast "zing," or
mark trees, which are the perpendicular series of suspended metal
tubes of graduated length that are frequently used for "magical"
transitions or fairy dust? These are often confused. In fact, I've
even seen mark trees referred to as bell trees or even wind chimes in
some sample libraries.

Yes. I'm transcribing a recording that has that "zing" in it at a musically
crucial point, and the licensor is a bit of a stickler.

And thanks, Roman, for the suggestion. I'll try to check it out.

How about hiring a drummer who has a bell tree? A short session
would not be costly...

There are decent little belltree "zings" in the free AKAI FTP sample
collection. If you like, I can email them to you directly. They're
small enough that they can fit as an email attachment. Email me
privately if you'd like me to send them to you.

Or better still, hire one (a bell tree, not a drummer) and record it
yourself, there are so many ways to play with them and you'll learn a
lot about the tonal possibilities. At best most samples of 'em tend
to have only a few variations and none of the ones I have ever fit
quite right. Mike

I work in a very corporate environment; hiring outside talent means
submitting a proposal, accompanied by an expense request, with a
justification, supported by cost/benefits analysis, after which I await
approval which can take 3-5 business days.

So, short answer, no, I'm not hiring a drummer.

But thanks for the suggestion.

Dave -

It's on my wish-list of toys, but pretty far down. Thanks!

Raphael -

Thanks to you, and everyone, for helping me out with this. I've acquired
some very usable samples, and have finished that part of the project.

You guys are the best!
