I have a new page of tips and tutorials on how to create EXS instruments with keyswitching, modwheel switching, modwheel crossfading and alternating groups Hope it's useful: http://www.petethomas.co.uk/logic-exs24.html -- Pete Thomas www.petethomas.co.uk - (Almost) Free Logic Tutorials, Icons, Environments and EXS Instruments

Very good info. And your screenshots are better readable than the EXS Interface on my screen :-) ___ Peter Ostry

was wondering if you had any tips on how to set up the ambient gretsch kit as a multi in EXS 24, with kick, snare, etc, being routed to it's own aux... thanks Lee K

I may be wrong but I thought that was reasonably well covered in the manual. If not then yes, I'll certainly add it to the page. Please do me a favour - have a look and report back if the manual is confusing or inadequate about setting up a multi. Let me know what is missing or confusing When you know how to do something, it's sometimes difficult to look at the manual through the eyes of someone new to the concept in order to evaluate what is a good tip and what is already covered. -- Pete Thomas www.petethomas.co.uk - (Almost) Free Logic Tutorials, Icons, Environments and EXS Instruments

I've got the multi environement for DFHS, and I'll tell you there are some things I really don't get...for example, you set up an aux for every part of the kit except the ambient mics...your DFHS instrument gets inserted into one designated audio instrument...and that somehow is routed to the ambient mics....why is that?

Okay, I actually did go back and look at the manual on how to set up the multi exs with the ambient gretch kit and followed it TO THE LETTER and it's still a no go... here's what I did: 1)set up an environment in my autoload where I created a new audio object for 1 audio instrument (the exs 24 multi loaded with ambient gretsch) and 5 Auxes (snare, toms, hats, kick, cymbals) 2)set up in the EXS 24 multi editor each zone to be routed to it's respective output 3)assigned the input of every Aux to the respective output of the Main (Audio Instrument loaded with EXS 24 multi) its not working......could it be because in this song (autoload) I have the DFHS environment also?? what am I missing??

I was wondering if there is an efficient way to move the exs sample library out of my logic folder and onto a different HD without using a manager such as redmatica/exsmanager... my library is starting to get a little hefty. thanks for the help.. The samples for you libraries can reside anywhere, as can the sampler instruments as long as you create an alias to their location from the default "Sampler Instruments" folder. Once everything has been moved, EXS will have to search for the samples again the first time you load each instrument, which can take a long time, but will speed up after the initial find. Project Manager can re-link everything, but I understand this process can take thousands of years. EXS Manager, on the other hand, can handle this task even for gargantuan libraries in just minutes---or less. If you've got a "hefty" library as you mention, you really should have EXS Manager.

If you've got a "hefty" > library as you mention, you really should have EXS Manager. thanks for the info... I wasn't sure if exs operated the same way say stylus rmx does in that you can take the sage library off the main drive and just put an alias in its place. I didn't want to move anything and create more issues when exs sometimes has trouble finding certain files already... EXS manager is on my list of to do's I just didn't think I could wait. Good advice If you need more info on Logic and folder structure (which became very confusing at the Logic 6 - 7 and OS9 - OS X transition) have a look here: http://www.petethomas.co.uk/logic-apple-pro-7.html -- Pete Thomas www.petethomas.co.uk - (Almost) Free Logic Tutorials, Icons, Environments and EXS Instruments

Well, there always just moving it, then letting EXS find the samples as you load them in. make sure EXS is set in Options to look in all volumes. Garth Hjelte Sampler User

You know just the audio wav files As long as your instrument files stay in their normal place in the library then logic will look for the corresponding audio files and link up There was something ages ago that said make an alias of yopur libraries new location and put it in the original libraries¹ folder Personally I never have had to do this I have all my Apple loops /BFD modern drummer etc wav files all together and I have called this main folder sample library..Works very well Now if I could only play more accurately!!! I hope this helps Lenny Rose-Slaughter Laughter Audio Australia>
