G4 firewire

G4 firewire

2006-07-08 by Larry lewis

Thank you larry,
I'm assuming the G4 will just have a firewire 400 port only?

CHUG.

Hello Chug,
Yes. This machine does.
Not sure about all G4s.
System profiler says:

FireWire Bus: Speed:	400 Mb/sec Speed

Yes. FW800 was introduced with the G5's. You could install one of
these in your G4 if you need FW800:

My Mirror-Door G4 2x1GHz has an 800 port as does the 17" PowerBook and 15"
Aluminum G4 machines all. This is not unusual nor was FW 800 "introduced with the
G5's".

I stand corrected. Apple did include FW800 ports on the last updates
to the PowerMac G4 in late 2002, several months before the G5 was
released, and continued to include them on the G4 PowerBooks after
that. In the pantheon of G4's, however, these units with FW800
actually are pretty unusual. It was with the G5's that FW800 became
ubiquitous, at least partly because there were virtually no FW800
devices previous to their release. I was "historically incorrect,"
but kinda "practically correct!"
