Horror Atmos

Horror Atmos

2007-05-12 by Keith Moore

I'm searching for some very nasty atmospheres... either stand alone
AU instruments or sample Libs for exs... any suggestions?

Is Spectrasonics Atmosphere old hat now?

Thanks for the input...
someone else suggested CA5000 which I've had for a long time (think
it was a LUG group buy) but it was gathering dust.. I had the feeling
it was too "electronic" but I've just discovered the sample import
side of it.... wow!!

I'd already made my mind up to buy Atmosphere Monday (strangely can't
seem to buy it online outside Oz.. looks like I'll pay (again) over
the odds for what the rest of the world gets for a relatively cheap
price.

You should really try to get more use out of CA5000.

FYI: I use CA5000 on an iBook G4 (bought right before they went to
Intel). It seems to be very memory/processor inefficient and I've had
to deal with more Logic/Mac crashes with CA5000 than any other app or
plugin I've used. Its one redeeming quality for me is its flexibility
in sound design, even if it's nothing but sine waves and noise
generation. I'd never use it live in realtime.

HOWEVER... If I really needed it for realtime performance, especially
for more complex sounds, I'd sample about two or three octaves by doing
an offline bounce. Even my iBook can handle 30 second samples live,
which makes CA5000 invaluable in creating new instruments. Many of my
CA5000 programs are missing the fundamental, so I usually mix a little
ES E or ES P to fatten up the sound a little bit. Again, good luck in
achieving this live with my setup. This might not be necessary for you
if you're creating "horror" atmospheres, but it's worth checking out.
Resampling some complex instrument models can help streamline some of
your work and make your new programs and sounds easier to work with.
