Garth already explained the parameters wich you can change on a group level
(actually, it's even a tad worse as you can in fact only adjust some offsets
to what you have set on the EXS' GUI), so that's quite limited indeed.

In case you're doing such things more often, I can highly recommend getting
another sampler. Inside Logic and for OSX, I'd say there's no better choice
than Kontakt - which allows for doing all these things with ease. You
wouldn't even have to create a new instrument out of two existing ones but
smply load them into Kontakt on top of each other, then tweak the individual
instruments to your likings. That way you can easily apply totally different
envelopes, filters, FX and what not in a matter of seconds (or minutes, in
case you're a deep tweaker).

Sure, that's quite some financial stretch, in addition Kontakt isn't acting
as quick as the EXS, plus it's indeed less efficient, too - but after all,
it's tweakers heaven, whereas the EXS is just a sort of workhorse sampler (a
rather nice one at that, but not much more nontheless).

Thanks for your comment.

As a sample developer, I am aware of the fact that Kontakt, Halion,
E-MU Emulator X, etc. are much more advanced samplers than EXS MKII.
However, the EXS is the one you can not leave out when developing
sample libraries - it is tied into Logic.

I managed to create quite good results playing with offests. But in
overall, EXS it is nowhere near of the synthesis and editing
possibilites of Halion3, Kontakt2 or.. the most advance, the E-MU
Emulator X.

In terms of stability and speed, EXS stil rocks... And I think, when
Apple introduces the successor of Logic (hopefully soon), it will also
incorporate a new sampler, maybe an EXS MKIII who knows...

Have you looked at Redmatica's Keymap yet?
In many ways it gives you an EXS24 MK6 !!

What's wrong with using more than one EXS instrument simultaneously?
You then can also use a different insert effect, channel eq and
whatnot for each instrument. I don't think a real multitimbral
sampler could be that flexible.
I'd see the point if EXS were a standalone application, but since it
only runs inside Logic's environment why duplicate the functionality
the environment already has?

say: very-very cool!

Hello,

you are completely right: it is very easy to layer any instrument in
Logic - from Logic 6. However, there are still a huge number of pc
users out there who uses the Logic 5, and layering does not work there
at all - unless you know the trick...

Bz.
