New soundcard - instrument aux'es

New soundcard - instrument aux'es

2001-12-04 by Arvid Solvang

I have just changed from the Yamaha SW1000XG card to the Hammerfall
Multiface.
I used ASIO drivers for both so when I chose ASIO driver for the multiface
all songs came up fine, but they lacked the bus buttons on the
Audioinstruments.
You could see the busvolume knob - and the busvolume was fine, but you no
Busnumber was chosen.

The busbuttons on the audio channels were fine.

Any reason?

Hi Arvid,

I am unable to help with your problem unfortunately. You are one of the
first to try the Multiface.
Perhaps when you've had a chance to test it out you could post and let us
know how does the thing performs -- especially sonically.

Regards,
Murray

Not a reason but a bug.
Kinda wellknown for me as I experienced that a number of times.
I'm afraid there's no cure for this but to remember your old bus setup -
which means that eventually you'll have to reload older songs using your old
soundcard and write the combination down.

Sorry for those bad news,
Sascha

Since everyone seems to have an opinion about this, here's mine. This is not
a big deal. If someone wants a backup of there disk for safety sake, that's
cool with me. I try to back everything up and place it in a fire-proof safe
in case I have a fire or theft. I would lose months of productivity
recovering from such a loss. It would destroy my business if I had to hunt
down every frickin' vendor I ever bought software from, most of which would
refuse to send me a complimentary extra disk (yeah right). My feeling? Leave
it alone. If someone needs a backup, more power to them.

This really depresses me. I was just about to buy this package (may anyway),
but I'm eager to discover a driver update, fix or what have you... Thanks
for the advanced notice. Could you elaborate on the solution, Sascha? -Jer

I have tracked drums all day in 16bit.
It seems to sound very nice, but who can tell on drums ;)

Well, if the bus thing is the only problem I would buy the package anyway.
I mean, I said this happened to me more than once, but actually it was
*only* twice. One time with some old songs of mine, another time with the
EXS Xtreme Analog CD. But, you should know that I also tried with a whole
lot of other soundcards (for testing purposes) and I could say that overall
the problem only occurs in let's say 10% of combinations, so maybe you'll be
lucky. Usually Logic does a good job in automatical conversion of hardware
settings.
There may be some workarounds for this bug too, but I guess that'd require
too much of testing for my brain right now (1:30, friends have been around
with some beers, you know the game...).
Maybe I will do some test tomorrow or so.

Regards,
Sascha

Now it makes sense to me. You get this problem when opening songs from a
prior configuration. I've seen this before. That puts me at ease. I will
definitely picking it up... a multiface plus the PCI and PCMCIA cards for my
powerbook and dual-g4 respectively (sigh of relief). I want that
low-latency,etc. Thanks for the info.

Just found out that also the output routing of the Audio instruments that
goes to bus'es is wrong.
I had all my audioinstrument-drumtracks going to Bus7 for compressing.
With the new soundcard they now appear at Bus4 (wich I use to compress
harmonyvocal and therefor sounded quite similar).

This is only a trouble with Audio Instrument tracks.
All other tracks are routed right.
