I don't know about the new firewire drives but here is what I've been
told 6 months ago about them.
I own one but only for backup purposes and to store my sample libraries
and folders.
As long as you only read from the FW drive, you won't have any problem.
But I've been told (though I didn't take the risk to try) that if you
want to record directly on the FW, you might get some corrupted files.
And this is where it seems odd but it, depending on the drive, it can be
right at the beginning or after having recorded 16 tracks or so. However
playing back is not a pb.
Here is how I do it on my PB G3:
I record all my stuff on the internal drive then once it it is recorded,
I transfer it to my FW for editing and mixing.
Concerning my samples, no PB with the external FW, it works very well.
No latency with the EMI 2-6 (I would recommend you this one for your
soundcard).
Hope this helps,
Vincnent
