There are a few things that I still don't understand about
computers. What's bugging me right now is logging onto the Akai site
to get these free downloads. I'm running win 98 and using a 56k
modem. I'm trying to access this site on aol but it's not working.
I've seen it mentioned that an ftp client may be downloaded to assist
in this. Can someone tell me specifically which one they use and how
I can get one ? How to use it would be helpful too.
                                                 Thanks,
                                                         Chuckee

I tried right now but the server said that the number of allowed downloads
simultaneously is reached. = 100
Maybe we should wait until James Richmond has downloaded all the stuff
before we try.
He says that it´s very slow at the moment.
This migt depend on the number of downloads.

This site seems to have become _very_ poular right now, so lets hope
everything works out.
Michael

AOL offers the worst file protocols known to man. If you want a file
corrupted during transit, use AOL. It totally amazes me how AOL can be the
single largest provider and offer the worst service at the highest rates. If
you're serious about the internet, get a standard e-mail account and cable
or dsl. You'll thank me once you get used to it. PS: I also love how AOL has
mastered the art of having you pay them to plaster your ads in your face,
while they make money from the advertisers as well. Best scam in the world
if you ask me.

For ftp client, I use FTP explorer. It's good, it's free, it's easy
to use and it's running three instances right now downloading sounds
from AKAI. You could probably get it from http://www.download.com.

James, if you're interested, I also have space to spare on my
personal website right now - about 40 mb, as far as I remember. It
probably won't be used up for a few months now, so we could easily
have the exs-files lying there for some time - let me know. Since
you're doing all the work here, I'd be happy to at least provide the
hosting.

regards

monsdrum

It's nice to see someone else using FTPExplorer. Nice, easy to use, small,
not too many frills.

Great program.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
